Having a baby means accepting many changes
that happen along the way, and, surprise, surprise, your body changes too. Of
course, while you can't and you don't want to return your life to the stage it
was in before you had a child, you probably want your body back. However,
changes in mass and shape are only natural, and while you should, by all means,
embrace motherhood in all its beauty, you still can get your body in shape and
be satisfied with how you look. Is there a chance to become skinny overnight? Probably
not. Good things happen to those with patience. But we are here to discover the
secrets of fast, but healthy weight loss.
DO: Eat more small
portions
You might think that you're doing your body
a favor by eating only one big meal a day, but that is not true. You will
accomplish much more by having four to six smaller portions each day because
this will keep your metabolism in check and your sugar levels stable. Also,
these meals will keep your tummy full throughout the day, so you won't reach for
unhealthy snacks.
DON’T: Starve
yourself
Starvation seems like the most logical way to
lose weight, but is it really? Skipping meals actually slow down your metabolism,
and makes even the smallest and the healthiest meal a burden for your body.
Also, you will probably feel uncomfortable and deprived of energy all the time,
which will lead to decreased productivity and various other problems,
especially if you are breastfeeding.
DO: Drink enough of
water
Some people think that drinking a lot of
water actually adds up to the body’s total mass. However, keeping the body well
hydrated will not only help the stomach feel full, but it will also improve
your metabolism and make you less likely to give in to unhealthy snacks.
DON’T: Trust fad
diets
Magazines and the web are full of fad diet
programs which require unreasonable restrictions from certain kinds of foods,
and illogical meal schedules. This approach can prove to be effective only
short-term, but in most of the cases, the pounds just come bouncing back. A
well-balanced diet which includes all the important nutrients is the best (even
though the longest) and the most long-term road to a great body.
DO: Search for
healthy shortcuts
Fad diet programs and various diet pills
can promise you short-term results, but they usually take a toll on your
health. However, there are some weight loss shortcuts which can't hurt your
health in any way, but they can speed up your return to the previous form. Treatmentssuch as body sculpting don’t use harmful chemicals, but they are
still helpful in removing troublesome pockets of fat and loose skin that often
happen after labour.
DON’T:
Over-exercise
We get it, the sooner you get rid of the
pounds, the better. And exercising is the most logical and the healthiest way
to do it. Still, over-exercising and pushing your body too much can be
unproductive. Instead, you should stick to burst training that last for about
twenty minutes, and complement them with strength training several times a
week.
DO: Choose your
food well
Is it better to eat one piece of bacon or
one portion of nuts? The latter one is, of course, much healthier. What you eat matters just as much as how much you
eat. When choosing your food, always decide for healthier options. Avoid sugar,
fat and high-processed food, and choose vegetables, nuts, whole grains and lean
proteins.
Getting back your confidence after giving
birth is difficult, but it is important to take it one step at a time and to
not expect overnight results. You can do whatever is in your power to speed up
the results, just as long as you don’t jeopardise your health.
